Gloucestershire have handed new deals to Chris Dent and Jack Taylor.

Off-spinner Taylor, 20, has agreed a one-year extension up to 2013 while left-handed batsman Dent, also 20, has signed until the following season.

"These youngsters have shown they've got the skills to have really good careers," captain Alex Gidman told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It's good news as we need to build a squad, not just for the next couple of years, but further afield than that."

Academy graduate Dent averaged 34.15 in the County Championship last season, while Taylor took 4-16 on his FL t20 debut against Somerset and went on to take a further 17 wickets in all competitions.

"Jack set a big benchmark as a match-winner on a big occasion and that's something that he has to live up to," added Gidman.

"He will be the first to admit he's got a lot of work to do technically on his bowling but certainly in his character he's a player that every team wants. He's feisty, competitive, and is someone who will be really good for us to have around.

"He needs to keep control of those emotions and focus on his job, which he'll learn to do, and I'm really confident he'll become a consistent performer in all forms of cricket.

"I think Chris made massive strides in the second half of last season - he really looked like a first-class cricketer. He got his first hundred which as a big step for him and he played some really important innings."
