TCC U-17's WIN 40 OVER COMP - 12th of September 2013

Thornbury Under 17's played in the Gloucestershire County 40 over final on Sunday at the Ship ground against Hatherley & Reddings, Thornbury won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a very good batting wicket.

Danny Slade and Marcus Wormwell opened the inning for Thornbury, both batsmen played with caution against the new ball with the bowlers consistently hitting a good line and length, the lads put on 47 for the first wicket before Wormwell fell for 16.

Dan Lezar joined Dan at the wicket and the pair put on a 142 partnership before Lezar ran himself out for a fine 54, Slade continued to hit boundary's and raced to 50 in only 35 balls, Marc Lezar batting at four smashed a quick fire 30 from 18 balls as Thornbury continued to pile on the runs, Slade was eventually bowled by Steel for a superb century, his third in the competition, Stuart McWhinnie (20), Sam Summerfield (18), Harry Wormwell (13) and Jack Wilson 11 not out pushed the score up to 308 for 9 at the close of the allotted 40 overs, a very formidable score.

It was a tremendous display of batting by the Thornbury lads, and an absolute jot to watch.

In reply Hatherley & Reddings were were bowled out for 143, opening bowlers Marc Lezar 2 for 17 in 7 overs and Kapil Agarwal taking 3 for 22 in his 7 overs, set the tone with some high quality bowling, Will Comley rapping the innings up with the last 2 wickets.

The quality of the fielding on both sides was exceptional and all catches were taken throughout the game, Dan Lazar in particular pulled of two spectacular catches at second slip.

Thornbury running out winners by 165 runs.

Thornbury coach John Wormwell said it has been an absolutely tremendous season with the lads winning the BYCL Cup in July and now picking up the biggest prize in youth cricket the Gloucestershire County Under 17's trophy, the lads have plenty to be proud of this season, a real team effort.
