TCC U-17's WIN 40 OVER COMP - 12th of September 2013

Thornbury Under 17's played in the Gloucestershire County 40 over final on Sunday at the Ship ground against Hatherley & Reddings, Thornbury won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a very good batting wicket.

Danny Slade and Marcus Wormwell opened the inning for Thornbury, both batsmen played with caution against the new ball with the bowlers consistently hitting a good line and length, the lads put on 47 for the first wicket before Wormwell fell for 16.

Dan Lezar joined Dan at the wicket and the pair put on a 142 partnership before Lezar ran himself out for a fine 54, Slade continued to hit boundary's and raced to 50 in only 35 balls, Marc Lezar batting at four smashed a quick fire 30 from 18 balls as Thornbury continued to pile on the runs, Slade was eventually bowled by Steel for a superb century, his third in the competition, Stuart McWhinnie (20), Sam Summerfield (18), Harry Wormwell (13) and Jack Wilson 11 not out pushed the score up to 308 for 9 at the close of the allotted 40 overs, a very formidable score.

It was a tremendous display of batting by the Thornbury lads, and an absolute jot to watch.

In reply Hatherley & Reddings were were bowled out for 143, opening bowlers Marc Lezar 2 for 17 in 7 overs and Kapil Agarwal taking 3 for 22 in his 7 overs, set the tone with some high quality bowling, Will Comley rapping the innings up with the last 2 wickets.

The quality of the fielding on both sides was exceptional and all catches were taken throughout the game, Dan Lazar in particular pulled of two spectacular catches at second slip.

Thornbury running out winners by 165 runs.

Thornbury coach John Wormwell said it has been an absolutely tremendous season with the lads winning the BYCL Cup in July and now picking up the biggest prize in youth cricket the Gloucestershire County Under 17's trophy, the lads have plenty to be proud of this season, a real team effort.

GROUNDFORCE - 2013 - 12th of September 2013

The Groundforce event this autumn is to be held on the 21st SEPTEMBER from 10am.

It’s that time of year which we need to put the ground ‘to bed’ for the winter months.

Nets, sight screens, benches, rain covers etc all need putting away, and your help is needed.

Tea & Coffee will be provided, may be even a bacon roll…

2013 SEASON - FINAL LEAGUE TABLES - 3rd of September 2013

The conclusion of the 2013 season saw Thornbury finish with strong league positions within the respective leagues although all three sides just failed to gain promotion.

Richard Trotman's 1st XI finished 3rd (260 points) in Premier Two, David Hammond's 2nd XI 4th (243 points) in Premier Two and Richard Hawkins 3rd XI 4th (254 points) in the B&D 2nd XI Division Two.

With all sides fielding young and inexperienced cricketers throughout the season the signs are looking very good for the future at TCC and the club will be confident of mounting promotional campaigns in 2014.

U'17's WIN CUP FINAL - 30th of July 2013

Thornbury Under 17's had a superb victory in the South West Glass Ltd Under 17's K.O. Cup final on
Sunday against a very strong Bristol team.

After winning the toss on a wet and windy afternoon and deciding to bat Thornbury lost opener Marcus
Wormwell for 3 in the second over, Dan Slade and Daniel Lezar played cautiously for a few overs as driving
on a slow wicket was almost impossible, both batsmen played themselves in and togetherput on a stand
of 75 for the second wicket, Lezar was eventually bowled by Hazelgrove for 27, this only brought his older
brother to the wicket Marc, he didn't waste any time hitting three massive sixes and scoring 31 from
only 12 balls, the momentum moved quickly to Thornbury and with Slade playing a really assured innings
and being the backbone of the side Thornbury managed to reach 147 for 8 after their allotted 20 overs, Dan
finishing with 57 bowled by Harry Thompson and Jordan Hicks hitting a massive 6 of the last ball. Harry
Thompson finishing with decent figures of 4 overs 4 wkts for 24 runs.

In reply Bristol got off to a flyer with Tom Smith hitting 12 of the first over, however Marc Lezar bowled
a very lively delivery to remove him well caught behind by Sam Summerfield for 12 in the 3rd over, Ellison (23) and
Taylor (32) both battered well but Josh Morris, Dan Lezar and Dan Slade all bowled superb spells to keep the run
rate spiralling upwards, Kapil took a superb catch in the deep to get rid of Thompson and the Bristol lads fell
23 runs short being bowled out for 123 in the 19th over.

Thornbury were really good value for a memorable win all the players contributed in an absolutely superb victory.

U17's INTO BYCL CUP FINAL - 18th of July 2013

Thornbury Under 17's reached the Final of the BYCL Cup final after a 45 runs victory over a very strong Frenchay side on Wednesday evening in their semi final at the ship ground.

After winning the toss Thornbury elected to bat first on a very hot and sticky evening, the pitch that had been watered heavily the evening before was greener than the two sides had expected but played reasonably true throughout the game.

The Thornbury openers Marcus Wormwell and Danny Slade watched the ball carefully early on but quickly got into their stride, both lads hitting straight sixes to get the innings going, they put on 52 before Marcus played one to many shots and was caught of the bowling of Pine for 26, Dan Lezar followed quickly after, Sam Summerfield helped keep the scoreboard ticking along in the middle overs and hit 19 before being bowled by Matt Taylor.

Danny Slade was the main stay of the innings hitting a superb 59, helped in the closing overs by Josh Morris (11) and Kapil Argarwel 9 not out, Thornbury posting a very useful score of 149 for 7.

In reply Frenchay started slowly and cautiously against the very accurate Dan Lezar and Stuart McWhiine, after 10 over the score was 47 for 2, something had to give and Danny Slade again took the initiative taking 3 quick wickets in his spell of 4 overs 3 wickets for 18 runs, Matt Evans hit 25 runs in the latter stages of the game but Frenchay were eventually bowled out for 104 in the 18th over.

Thornbury now play in the BYCL Cup final at Frampton Cotterell on Sunday 28th July, they await the winners of the semi final between The Bristol and Downend.
